I Felt My Legs Were Praying

When I pray, my prayer is not complete until I experience a realization of Truth.  In the instant of realization, I know that that about which I have prayed is already done in the mind of God. My next step is to embody my prayer.  With confidence, courage and trust, I take action.  Each action brings every dimension of my being into greater alignment with the Truth I have claimed, moving from an inner awareness to complete activation in my body and the body of my affairs.   As I embody the Truth that I know and my world tends to conform to that Truth.  My prayer manifests!

If we want our society to embody the Truth of Love, Oneness and Harmony with all life, then we must fully embody our prayers and boldly live our faith. As the bridge between heaven and earth, we must pray and take action – be love in action–so that the spiritual potential of Beloved Community can be realized.

When Rabbi Heschel marched with Dr. King, he wrote that “…our march was worship. I felt my legs were praying.” This is the embodiment of prayer. When we pray for peace, justice, a healed earth, ending homeless, brotherhood for all people, we are called upon to represent spiritual Truth in the flesh. We are called to give our prayer life in in time and space as well as in the timeless dimension of Spirit.

We are here to realize the oneness of heaven and earth.  Our prayers for Peace, Justice, Love become fulfilled on Earth through/as us.  As we become the hands and feet of Love, we become the thing itself—Beloved Community.  Through our embodied prayers of service, activism, art and care, the Ideal becomes real here and now.

Affirmation: Because I believe, I take action. Because I love, I am love in action.  I embody my prayers in full faith that the Beloved Community is at hand.
